How to check rego in QLD (step by step)

Queensland's registration check is run by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). It takes less than a minute:

1. Go to the official TMR registration check page.
2. Enter the vehicle's registration number (the number plate) — no account or personal details needed.
3. The result shows instantly: expiry date, vehicle description, CTP insurer and purpose of use.

That's it. There is nothing to pay and nothing to sign up for. Because Queensland abolished rego stickers in 2014, this online check is the standard way to confirm whether any vehicle — yours or one you're about to buy — is currently registered.

What the free check does and doesn't show

The free TMR check covers registration status only: expiry date, make, model, colour, CTP insurer and recorded purpose of use. It never reveals the owner's name or address. It also does not tell you whether a vehicle has money owing on it, has been written off or reported stolen — that information lives in the national PPSR register, where an official search costs $2 at ppsr.gov.au. If you're buying a used car, the smart order is: free TMR rego check first, then a PPSR search before you hand over money.

Yes. The official Queensland Government rego check at service.transport.qld.gov.au is completely free and does not require an account. You only need the registration number (number plate). Paid services you may see advertised are selling extra vehicle history reports, not the basic registration check.
